FLIR announced today FLIRSIM, a new virtual training platform for operators using the FLIR Star SAFIRE 380 family of airborne cameras. FLIRSIM provides off-platform system-level training in a controlled environment such as classroom or a hanger, replicating real-world missions to most efficiently train and to improve safety on live missions. The virtual training system allows operators more hands-on training time, which ultimately helps improve mission effectiveness.

With tens of thousands of Star SAFIRE 380 operators conducting missions globally, operators rely on FLIR cameras each day with mission-critical time requirements to save lives. FLIRSIM is a complete, portable, and easy to setup system that maximizes operator skills and proficiency. This robust virtual training system uses the FLIR hand controller and can be deployed in virtually any location world-wide. Because of its portable off-platform design, FLIRSIM also delivers direct operational cost savings by avoiding significant platform operating costs normally incurred using aircraft, vessels, or land-based systems.

Developed by MAG Aerospace, our training partner and world leader in ISR training, FLIRSIM is incorporated into FLIR training curriculum.  FLIR customers may also augment their in-house training program using the FLIRSIM virtual trainer.

The FLIRSIM is an ITAR-controlled product, available for existing FLIR systems users directly from FLIR. It is currently being fielded with our U.S. based customers and will be available to our entire worldwide customer base in Q1 of 2019.  The FLIRSIM will be shown at the APSCON Conference in Louisville, Kentucky from July 11-13 in booth #726.
